Summer Reading
At the end of every year, many parents ask us, "What can we do this summer
to keep my child's skills
sharp so they will be ready for next year?"
These activities are fun, easy and extremely beneficial:
1. Enjoy your time together. Have fun. Get to know each other. Laugh
together a lot.
2. Encourage your child to read everything they can get their hands on
that is on their independent reading level.
3. Read with and to your child to improve fluency. Every age child
loves to be read to.
4. Talk about what is being read to improve comprehension.
5. Expose your child to a wide variety of words when speaking and
reading in order to enhance their
vocabulary. Speak, list and write with words like adore, cherish,
devoted to, infatuated with, irresistible, fond of partial to, etc.,
instead of "love".
6. Expose them to variety of experiences and then talk and write about
them by writing stories, listing
descriptive words, etc.
If you want additional materials for your child to give him practice on
specific grade-level skills, we are participating in a new program that you
may find interesting. The materials are called "Summer Books". You may go online to order the appropriate level for your child in order to "ensure
readiness for their new class in the fall". At the same time, you will be
helping Aucilla Christian Academy earn a small commission on the sale of the
books. Please check them out, if you think they are appropriate for the
kinds of things you would like for your child to do this summer, you can
order directly from the company right here on our Web site. Summer Book Company
