Three more Aucilla Christian Academy Warriors have committed to play sports on the collegiate level next school year. Tima Finlayson will be playing golf for Shorter University, a Christ-centered private college in Rome, Georgia. Haley Jones has committed to ride on the rodeo team at Missouri Valley College, a four-year private college, affiliated with the Presbyterian (USA) Church in Marshall, Missouri. And, Katie James will be rowing on the crew team at the University of Central Florida in Orlando.
This has been an incredible year for ACA athletes! God has blessed seven of our athletes with opportunities to excel in college sports. That’s nearly 25 percent of our graduating senior class. Tima, Haley and Katie will be joining ACA’s four student athletes who signed to play collegiate sports last fall: Elizabeth Hightower (University of Florida), Abigail Morgan (Florida Atlantic University), Carly Joiner (Valdosta State University) and Camryn Grant (Lee University).
As a golfer, Finlayson received ACA’s Most Valuable Player Award five straight years and was selected to play on the Panhandle Cup golf team the past three years. He was also chosen for the All Big Bend second and honorable mention golf teams. In basketball, he received ACA’s Best Guard Award for two years and All Big Bend honorable mention recognition. He’s also been involved in the leadership of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Beta Club as an officer and the ACA Ambassadors.
“Playing golf at Shorter is a dream come true,” said Finlayson. “I have visited the campus multiple times and really feel a strong connection to the school and the golf coach.”
Jones, a qualifier last summer for the National High School Rodeo, the largest rodeo in the world with the best four in each state and the best in Canada and Australia, said, “I’m excited to be offered an athletic rodeo scholarship to compete with the Missouri Valley College Rodeo Team.
I’m looking forward to competing at the next level in the collegiate and professional rodeo circuit.” Along with participating in rodeos, Jones also makes time for ACA activities, including: Beta Club, Living Waters Praise Team, cheerleading, basketball and serving as the senior class president this year.
James played on ACA’s basketball team that participated in the Florida High School Athletic Association Final Four State Basketball Championship Tournament in Lakeland this year, along with Jones, and was excited to be recruited as a competitive and motivated out-of-sport athlete to UCF’s Varsity D1 National College Athletic Association rowing team. “I’m so excited for next year and am so thankful that God gave me this opportunity,” said James. Active on-campus, James has been involved in the leadership of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Beta Club, Living Waters Praise Team and the ACA Ambassadors.
All of the athletes are honor students. Finlayson is the son of Richard and Meagan Finlayson of Monticello. Jones is the daughter of Chad and Coleen Agner of Greenville. James is the daughter of J.D. and April James of Monticello.
