Lady Warrior Recruited to Pitch at FAU
Abigail Morgan, a sophomore at Aucilla Christian Academy and pitcher for the Lady Warriors, verbally committed over the weekend to play softball at Florida Atlantic University, "giving God all the glory for everything He has done for me," she posted on her social media accounts. "I also want to thank my parents and coaches for always pushing me to be my best," Morgan stated.
Morgan is the daughter of Susan and Mitchell Morgan of Monticello. "Abigail is super excited," said her mom. "We went down for an unofficial visit where she toured campus, met with advisors and they took her to watch a volleyball game. [They] made an offer that afternoon and after going home and praying about it that night, she decided the next morning to accept. FAU was in her top five choices, and they made her an offer she couldn't refuse. She was recruited as a pitcher."
ACA softball coach, Becky Lauth, is proud to see her Lady Warriors succeeding. Morgan is the second underclassman to receive a verbal scholarship offer to play NCAA Division I college softball since the ACA softball team won their state championship; Kelly Horne, a junior, was recruited over the summer to play at Troy University in Alabama.
"Aucilla Christian has had a good track record with students receiving both academic and athletic scholarships," said Principal Richard Finlayson. "Over the last three years, two-thirds of ACA graduates have received merit based financial aid for college, an average of $28,000 per qualifying student. It's a blessing to see God rewarding our student athletes like Abigail and Kelly."
